I used to love love Halloween. As a kid it was all about the candy. (of course) As an adult I revel in the chance to create something completely weird and be in disguise. The last seven years, however, it seems I'm more concerned about keeping the porch light off so no scary Tucson teens knock on my door expecting quality chocolate not cheap hard candy.
In honor of the good old days (when mom made sure our costumes were warm, popcorn balls were common, and gluten free was not in the equation) I'm posting an old photo of "the three little girls" and their precious Halloween booty.
For those wondering.... I believe the costumes are from left to right, bunny, Indian (so NOT pc) and Russian dancer. (perhaps not pc as well?)

This picture is awesome. Check out all three of the faces...so focused on that booty. Those Tuscan teens sound a bit spoiled. Hard candy suits me just fine. No the last two are not exactly pc :) Halloween has lost some of it's luster but tomorrow we "have" to dress up for work and I am thinking of attempting a mo-hawk so it may be redeemed as a good holiday starting tomorrow. :)Growing up I was a witch pretty much every year so now I am stepping out of my comfort zone :) I hope you have a nice Halloween this year! Maybe you will get some cute trick-or-treaters.
And by cute trick or treaters I mean some darling little girls in Jackie-O costumes :) Wasn't that the cutest idea and outfit!!
That pic brings back some fond memories... The Russian dancer outfit was from when Randy and Gordon did the infamous delayed reaction dance -(a la home video classic). I remember how smart I thought they looked. While I was busy wearing the oh so seductive dress with the ruffles and lovely parasol. I LOVED those parasols.
It's amazing to me mom was even able to scrounge up ANY costumes with all the stuff she went through raising 8 kids on a ranch. I'm sure you remember the year of the "carpet sample" costume... Yeah, good times :)
Thanks for the smile.
Ok, I just read your post to Jaron, and am still smiling about diving intervention, all I came up with was -" driving" which isn't a whole lot better. You've made me laugh 2 times today! No wonder I love you!
Oh, the carpet sample..... I have heard the lore, but don't remember the actual costume.
It was the hoola skirts I wanted to grow into, but they disappeared before I got old enough!
Perhaps I will post karen and roberta in those cute dresses with parasols.
(which I also dreamed of!)
Go for the dresses. I will also be wearing my Oh so sylish "cat eye" glasses which will make it all worht while.
Love the picture. Believe it or not, I have that Indian costume in a box of stuff I got from my mom. Isn't that crazy. Hope your Halloween was fun and tame in Mackay.
Hey, I accidently deleted my post. How dumb is that. Anyway, I love the picture. My kids looked a lot like that tonight. I actually have that very Indian costume in a box of stuff I got from my mom. Not sure how we got it but there you are. Isn't that funny.
I love that picture. It' not quite as good as the one with move sitting on a tree with the dopey glasses and crazy 70's skirt, but good none-the-less.
My Halloween enthusiasm seems to wane with each passing year, but not at the same rate of decline as Christmas. Though I do enjoy all the free candy that floats around the office:)
I meant to say 'mom', not 'move'. Silly me.
I actually remember wearing that costume. I told the boys "You know who was really good at thinking up costumes?" Immediate answer "Aunt Karen?" I said "No, grandma, she was the best at coming up with something to wear from stuff she already had around." Remember Cousin It out of the grass skirt??
