Day Away... with no combustibles

"No, I'd really rather not, because if we were in an accident my truck could explode." I explained for the 4th time to the nice man in Sedona.

My friend Jen and I drove there to pick up a press used in my cold fusion research. The couple selling the item had all sorts of "free" items they wanted to throw in, including 2 gallons of pure nitric acid.

Although I have the means to use and properly dispose of the acid where I work, I wasn't so thrilled about the logistics of hauling it 4 hours in hot weather.

He was quite persistent, in spite of my refusal. ("You'd be doing us a great favor"......Uhhh, yeah!) Finally his wife told him to stop pressuring me and we made our escape, press, lots of random paper and tools safely bungee'ed in the back.

We topped off the day by a picnic and short walk in Red Rock Park.

In my mind I had romanticized Sedona as much cooler and less poky. So the sweaty walk in 94% (and a tear in my linen shirt from a thorny bush) was not my dream day away from Tucson.

BUT, the red rock formations were lovely, the sky was stunning, I saw running water (not a fountain) and spent an interesting 7 hours discussing a variety of topics with Jen.

Not a bad day away, AND completely explosion free.

What is the cold fusion research? I love the red rock country! Did some great hiking and biking around there years ago! Please say hi to Jen for me. I hope she is doing well.

Any explosion free day, whether of the chemical, hormonal or emotional variety, is a success in my book!
And you did get some lovely shots. The second is my fav, but they're all nice.
So...you did get out moving, albeit in massive heat and the torn shirt is a bummer... But - you got out!
Good for you!

Ooh, I almost made up a bucket of nitric acid today. But I decided to save that for tomorrow. Working with sulfuric and phosphoric acid was enough acid exposure for one day.

I'm with you on the heat thing. I've finally had enough of the hot weather. Can't wait for it to start cooling down! Especially since the ac in my car broke on Friday.

I gotta say it's pretty. But, nothing beats our walk up Subino(can't spell) Canyon, during that flash flood! Just sayin.

So glad there was no exploding going on....just the heat, huh? Well, I have to say I have always been fascinated by red rock and red dirt...don't know why ?*&% I think it looks great in pictures set against a blue, blue sky... your pictures are lovely and it sounds like your days was, too ;)

Sounds like a fun & interesting day. An explosion free day IS always good--mine are usually the acid tongue variety. Today was a doozy. Love the photos. FYI--the cat is gaining, she can now jump up our bed to sleep with us where before she could only get about halfway (very pathetic to see). She is back in hiding again though--quick enough to get away. As for the Cupcake Cabin, if you came to visit I'm sure we could arrange a stay.....

I don't know, maybe you could have added some real excitement to your life by taking that acid. :) Glad you didn't and those are beautiful red rocks.
