Shaving vs Nylons....

A recent discussion of Nylons vs shaving has prompted this post. I hate nylons. I feel like I'm smothered, choking and don't get me started on the hot flashes. However, my shoddy attempts at de-furring are usually half hearted attempts which often finish in the product shown here. (gotta love that super macro! who knew you could be that wrinkled on your ankle?)
I can see the benefit of nylons in cold northern winters, but now that I'm in the desert heat it all seems misogynistic. Those Europeans have it down, no shaving and no nylons.

The pictures bring me to another point.... the uber wide foot. You know you thought it.
I'm looking for some new shoes to replace old trial runners. I have a ducklike wide foot and narrow heal coupled with a super high instep. So finding shoes is near impossible. I recently visited "The Wide Shoe Store" (that is the real name) where they had no shoes wide enough for me. The gentleman assisting me (I won't let them put the shoe on for me I hate that and think it is weird... how do they think we manage at home?) Anyway, the guy helping me said I just needed a wider size which they didn't carry. Which prompted me to ask what store might carry it.... "the WidER shoe store? If you are going to have a name like the wide shoe store it seems to me you should carry wide shoes, thats all I'm saying.

Ok, really my life is fine. Things are winding up for the spring and soon I will be off to Idaho then to Italy. I'm excited that Crazy and my friend Emily will come for visits. We have much planned.
Had a great visit with Alli today too and that was a good cheer. It is always nice to hear from family and have some actual time to chat.

So, nylons or shaving... and where IS the Wider shoe Store?

Ouch! I actually shave every day, but I avoid my ankles and knees. So I usually have smooth calves and thighs and hairy ankles and knees. So... there's that.

Pretty crazy that school's almost out, right?

That ankle shot was a cringer! I went for years sans nylons but recently bought a shorter skirt and felt a compulsion to buy nylons again. Some are okay but most just don't fit right. I actually bought a very pale pair in SLC because I hadn't shaved and when I came out of the store Karen asked "Aren't you going to put them on?" Apparently they were the same color as my legs were anyway. I was glad I had them on when we waited at the train station though because it was really cold. When we got the Conference Center I went to the bathroom and promptly put a big hole right in the knee. Hairy legs or a big ol' run in the knee? Tough call but I went with the hole in the knee.

That is a gross picture! It's nice to think school is almost out. I can't wait for no more homework. Hope we get a chance to see you this summer and I was thrilled to hear you will be visitng Kathy sometimes.

Ok. There are some things that should not be supermacroed...My toes are curling just thinking about that pic and the pain involved in arriving at such a state of skinlessness... yikes. I haven't had a pair of hose on (other than kneehighs) in at least 5 years. And I don't plan to do so again unless someone is holding a gun to my head. I think that pretty much expresses my opinion.
I too am amazed at how fast this year is going and now we are entering the super speed mode (art shows, finals, etc.) I'm SOOOO looking forward to the summer!!!

Ok, you can really tell I'm a scientist here, since I actually thought the super macro picture was pretty. If you don't think about what is making that red pattern... it is really an intense beautiful pattern.

sorry to gross you all out!

The scrape does have a kind of scorpion, lizard shape thing going on and it IS quite vibrant. It's just hard to get past the whole toe curling thing once you relate to the fact that it is the result of an ankle shaving incident, which most every woman can relate to...
