How to Not Save Money

So I'm supposedly saving money for a downpayment on some sort of dwelling down here. I'm not even going to go into the current financial climate... OR the potential instability of my job, which of course has put many plans on hold.
The point is...I'm living in 360 square feet so I can SAVE money.

Turns out I am an addict. (I think I have several addictions...but for the purposes of this blog I will stick with one)

Craigslist.

Holy great furniture for cheapness! Not everything all the time, but for those of you who know I love the bargain hunt (Amy... don't get Mike started!) this is a great safari.
Forget garage sales- you have to get up early... forget ebay..... you have to bid and wait. On craigslist if you manage to find it first- weeded out of all the junk- it can be yours. All done from the comfort of your mini green studio apartment where you have no need for more furniture.

The pictures here are of two antiques I bought in the last couple of weeks. Both were great deals I found myself unable to pass up. $100 later I'm not saving money.

I seem to justify it by reminding myself that crappy new furniture out of particle board would cost more and look worse. All true... but I'm not saving money. I tell myself I am finding furniture I really like that has more style and history than contemporary furniture and will look great in my house in Idaho or something here. Also true.. but I'm not saving money.

Maybe having no tv was not such a good idea. It might have distracted me from craigslist. Instead of stalking the antiques online I could watch "Dancing with the Stars", and Ugly Betty" and never know that an amazing mission oak highboy was selling right now for $175 just a few blocks away. (that is true by the way... and a very good price)

Craigslist... how not to save money.

SCORE!!! What great finds! Saving money is overrated. Just look at the stock market. I think you have to consider it two or three days skiing, or whatever other activity people spend their entertainment money on...
I LOVE those!

Beautiful furniture. I don't think you should think of it as not saving money, but as investing a small part of your savings into something you love. Just chalk it up to your entertainment budget. By the way, you are very kind and good for my ego. Love you.

I love craig's list, too. Lucky for me, I'm so cheap, that I don't consider buying anything over $25. Plus, I don't have an eye for antiques. I wouldn't know a decent antique if it came up and slapped me in the face (as they've been known to do). Anyway, I agree that your purchases are very nice and will be well worth the expense.

Lovely stuff. I think all have things that we get addicted to like that. I think you should consider it investing too. If it's stuff you really love. Better that than wasting it on stuff that is more fleeting. You shouldn't feel guilty!

If you really like it...then it is worth it. Furniture is something you jut don't get new or get rid of all the time...so don't sweat it. I love the chair! I love unique things in a home...good job :)
