Ramona will get this.

Of the 3 and 1/4 people who actually read my blog, Ramona, the silent blog watcher, is likely the only one to appreciate this post.

Martin is this amazingly talented singer/songwriter who I stumbled on about 10 years ago in a solo performance that was like nothing I had ever seen.
After that I was addicted to his first two cds (which he produced himself)

Not long after my first concert Martin, (who had been a street singer) was picked up by a major label that over produced and overwhelmed his amazing talent. The cds from that point only had a couple of songs I actually liked, and I started to give up on the guy. I went to 3 or 4 other performances over the years hoping to re-live that first amazing experience, only to be disappointed by all the electric guitars.

UNTIL TONIGHT! Yaaaayyyy! My friend Kelly convinced me to go because she had read that he would be without a band.. and just singing and scatting all alone.
He did a version of "Freedom of the Road" that actually made me cry. (ok, I know I cry at anything these days......but truly it was amazing.) His voice is beyond!

The last time I saw him it was clear he was totally drugged out and it was actually really sad, but it was sooo clear tonight that he has cleaned up, changed his life and it shows in his singing and music.

(it was super obvious when he said the "God grant me the serenity.." that all AA folks use)

Anyway... Ramona, Mr. Sexton is worth seeing again. I'm going to look up his new live album tonight.
It was a nice break in my week and my lack of social life. Now if my back will only recover from 4 hours of standing on concrete to listen to him and the opening act!

Sounds like a wonderful concert. I have some of the CD's that you gave me with his stuff and he is really good. Glad you got to experience a good new phase in his life. Hope your back feels better - it's cause you had the birthday and are now a year older...(said the ancient older sista ;0)

I am glad that your friend talked you into going!! It is sad to see people head down a hard path, but really great that he has been able to turn it around.

What do think the chances are that after having my blood drawn again, the results would be negative for celiac, I have news!!

I love when one can go and REALLY enjoy a performance and feel good when you leave....aside from your back, I guess :( Take it easy.

It's so good for you to go out and have fun. It's also rare when someone who has been "discovered
can find their own sound again. Just on the side, don't you wish those silent watchers would comment, at least say hi?

I really can't think of any performer that I have ever seen that moved me to tears--even when I was hormonal (maybe I'm just not a music affcianado--although I like to think that I am). Sounds like an amazing talent. Would love to hear something of his sometime.

So if you are interested at ALL Mr Sexton will be in Seattle this friday, in Boise on Oct 30 and in SLC right after that.

You can look him up on martinsexton.com

if you listen to sound bites try "freedom of the road" or his live version of "Purple Rain"

and Yes Amy, I do wish those watchers would comment... better yet, make a blog so I could see what is happening with them!
