4th Times the Charm

I dreamed of having amazing news to post today, but alas that is not in my karma just yet.

So instead I'll just tell you a story about making yogurt. Engrossing Tales of Yogurt... (a real page turner if there were pages)

My yogurt batches made in Tucson so far go like this:

Batch 1- Got too hot..20 degrees too hot-
Because it has been cold for here, (and I don't have any heat) I was worried the yogurt maker wouldn't stay at a warm enough temperature since it is designed for a 72F house. (Mine has been closer to 55-60F) so I wrapped it in a body pillow. Too hot, yogurt may still have lactose, bad for me, good for my landlords who loved the giant batch I gave them.

Batch 2- Got a little too hot-
Tried a towel over the yogurt maker instead of the body pillow, and by the end the batch was slightly above temperature. Bitter and out of yogurt, I've been eating it anyway, and am suspicious it is the cause of my current tummy rumbles.

Batch 3- Made with Milk that had gone off:
Of course since I can't drink the milk, and it didn't smell, I didn't realize this until the entire 2 day yogurt process was complete. The resulting curdled "yogurt" ,if that is indeed what it is, smells an awful lot like baby vomit. I'm having a hard time convincing myself to eat it. In addition, the Barbie Dream house now smells like a cheese factory run by nursing infants.

Batch 4-In the yogurt maker now...
So.... all I have to do is wait 28 hrs, put it in the fridge for 8 hrs after that, then let it drip for another 8 hrs before I know if I'm made something edible.

Yes, that is the time investment for each of these batches, so you can imagine my frustration when several batches have gone awry. This is also an indication of the lengths I'm willing to go for even a glimmer of intestinal improvement.... and there have been glimmers.

Geeze Louise! That's a LOT of hours and frustration. I've got my fingers crossed for this batch (and any future batches of course). Hope it actually does make a difference for you. The resultant imagery from your descriptions is less than savory I must say. Good Luck!

Oh, I just read your last few posts (I fell off the face of the earth). I am so happy, sad for you. I was sure that the orange kitchen house was going to work out and that you would be able to move on. Alas it was not to be. I am however very glad that you and Mary broke up! I really like this Jen character, she is a keeper. Sorry about the yogurt, maybe grandma could bring you some, tell her you need it stat:)I wish you all the luck and you are in my prayers.
