Speaking of Paint

Why did you paint it?

Oh, I'm an artist...I know it's not to everyone's taste, but it's artistic.

(Huh?)

Stop what you're thinking. I'M the one asking the "artist" why SHE painted the upholstery on this chair, not the other way around.

By now you know I should be enrolled in a 12 step program for Craigslist addicts, but as there has been no intervention this conversation took place at yet another bargain rendezvous.

The above deluded "artist" had painted the original crushed green velvet on this antique chair rendering it seemingly ruined. Now she was willing to part with her treasure because she was moving to New York to pursue her artistic dreams.
Seriously.

Mentioning nothing about my profession, (or my opinions of her obvious creative genius), I lugged the paint heavy thing down her stairs and decided to take the $25 gamble that it was save-able.

Not what I had planned for Saturday, (or what I needed to do) but I spent a good share of the day carefully prying out tacks and nails, and taking apart what she had so haphazardly painted together.

Included in no particular order: (because my photos just look like a bunch of gobbled text, so I can't move them about in the edit mode)

Pictures of the chair in it's painted glory.
Some close ups so you can appreciate the "artistic" attention to detail.
Horsehair innards and a glimpse of the green velvet past.
A cool coin found inside. (turns out it is a Thai Baht worth about $.15)
The naked and 10 pounds lighter chair, sans painted upholstery.

(Oh, and the piles of books I got at the local library sale. $10 for all that booty!)

Not sure if I have the skill to re-do this chair, but I think it has sooo much potential. Now that it has shed it's weighty facade I'm going to give it my best.
'
It won't be as "artistic" as the New York bound former owners version (I pray)... but it will be fun attempting something more suitable.

What?

Where will I PUT the finished chair?

Uh, well yeah..... did I mention I have an addiction?

Oh My!
What an "interesting" artistic interpretation.....
WOW! Really. Wow!..

The chair does have lovely lines. I'm sure you'll do something fun with it. Now as t where you're going to put it... I have every confidence in your creativity.

Can't wait to see the end result.

I'm sure that chair will turn out much better under the hands of a real artisit. What passes for art with some people....crazy indeed!

So in that pile of books do I see "She's come undone" second from the top?...Can't zoom in close enough...
Looks like a nice stash for future days while taking a break from furniture salvage.

Keen eyes there Crazy!

Yes you do spy "She's Come Undone". I nabbed several books I've already read because I like them and would happily pass them on.

Also got a hardcover copy of "Tisha" an old fav.

Interested in any?
(:

Most who know me, know that I am addicted to spray painting things, light fixtures, picture frames and furniture of all sizes-but even I have my limits!! I guess that is why I am not an artist! Can't wait to see the magic you work!

Man, I can't believe I never thought of painting a chair to change it up! Look what I've been missing. :) Seriously, can't wait to see your finished product. It will be beautiful and there is always a place for that.
