A Day Late....(well, now 2 days late)

A day late and poorly planned.... but here are a few random thoughts about a phenomenal woman whom I and 7 others are blessed to call Mother. (the pictures are the best part)

Mom of my youth:

Never left the house without putting her eyebrows on.

Magically fixed the batch of bread no matter how we'd messed up the dough.

Could be found working in the garden well after after dark.

Never flinched when chopping chicken heads.

Fixed plumbing, built shelves, threaded pipes, sewed clothing, hauled lumber, fixed food, herded kids, cooked books at work and food at home...sometimes all in the same day.

Continually busy, eternally tired, wise and loving.

Mom of my middle Age:

Unconcerned about the state of her brow.

Works long hours in the garden, but can be found in bed by dark.

Never flinches, no matter how much pain she feels. (not sure if that is a good thing)

If the need arises she will still fix plumbing, build a shelf, sew clothing and cook books and food, but fortunately she is smart enough not to try it all in one day.

Continually positive, eternally patient, always wise and loving.

Ohh!!! That IS PERFECT! I 'thought" of doing something like that - but then continued on my run as the proverbial chicken with it's head lopped off - which YES! mom could do with great dispassion.
I know everyone "thinks" their mom is the best. but, that's only because they don't know "our" mom!
You chose great photos and your words are spot on. (as usual)
I didn't remember the one of her with the dutch boy and word Velma Hall on it - I can see Amy Lee and her brood lurking in those genes...
I remember sewing those nightgowns the three little girls are sporting in the one with mom and the amazing cheekbones.
I never did understand the eyebrow thing - but I DO remember distinctly the smell of the lipstick that she wore for years until she couldn't buy it anymore.
What an example of patience, work ethic, understanding and endurance. She IS the very best.
Thanks for the lovely tribute.
(You're pretty swell yourself :0)

Love. Love. Love those pictures!!! I could see so many of you Vadens in her....what a legacy. She has always been very kind to me and my children. I think she should write a book....what I could learn from her :)
