The last 7 or 8 weeks have been a bit rough health wise; new food sensitivities discovered, and even tougher food restrictions. As a result I've struggled with something to blog about beyond the ever changing state of my bowel movements.
A recent trip to Sacramento and beyond provided a nice break and much more interesting pictures than the poo subject.
A quick Visiting Scientist gig at a local community college helped with my airfare, and provided the chance to spend the holiday break with my friend and travel buddy Emily.
Ever the social butterfly Em had friends with a little house on the coast we could rent which she thought I might enjoy.
Only three days there, but it really was a fabulous break. We stayed in Albion, Ca just south of Mendocino. We drove through Napa Valley on the way so I could see the fall vine colors which were spectacular. The coast didn't disappoint. It was beautiful giant rocky cliffs much like parts of the Oregon coast.
The cottage we stayed at was moldy, dank, cold a bit dirty and completely charming!! If you know me at all, and see the pictures here you will understand why I loved it. The owners used to run an antique store in the region and this cottage is clearly a stash for some of their collecting obsessions. It is their summer home. Weathered and shabby... I did love it.
My biggest disappointment of the trip was not taking along my nice camera. All I had with me was a mini video camera that also took sketchy stills. At every turn I was cursing knowing what great images I could have gotten with the better camera. Oh well.
Our last day we spent sitting on cliffs above the roaring surf. (Look close at the last pictures... you will see Emily asleep in a chair looking over the coast) I did venture down to the water, but Em just enjoyed the sun and sound... and sleep.
On the return drive we drove through a section of redwood forest which was gorgeous, but mostly too dark for my sad little camera. (curses again)
Now I'm back in Tucson embroiled in the mad slippery slide into finals. The rainy coast with red mushrooms is a lovely memory.
The poo? Well... that is a constant ever changing reality.

That's the best you could do with a crappy camera. Geez! That's better than most people do with good cameras! Glad you were able to get away. It looks beautiful.
I'm with Miste on that one. Those are lovely photos and I can totally see why you loved the little cottage. And I'm SO glad you got to spend some time in down mode in a lovely locale with a good friend.
Good luck with the slippery slope (and with the poo :0)
I also agree with Miste. I'm so glad you had this vacation. That cottage rocks, so charming. I hope you are feeling better

sorry to hear about the new belly issues. my advise is to just have it taken out, i'm sure that it would be a great quality of life!)
