Paint chips and Planting

I have at least 20 paint chip samples taped to my walls. I work with color for heavens sake, and I can NOT make a decision. Must choose by the weekend.
Completely worried I'll suddenly choose some random weird mustard color on a spur of the moment at the store, I avoided the whole issue today and worked outside.

I'm too chea... ahem, frugal to buy a shovel down here for the 3 times I would actually use it, so I borrowed one from Jen.

When I saw the flat nosed rusty thing her 12 yr old had grabbed from their shed I laughed out loud. (she didn't even know they possessed a shovel in such a state).

No laughing later as I gripped the splintery handle to "dig" into the hard pan ground here in the Ol Pueblo. (Dig didn't really apply... it was mostly chopping, so now I know why Maria had offered me a pick axe!)

Several hours, dozens of rocks, and a few glasses of water later I had planted my first permanent plant in my new abode.

The picture here shows it all. The shrub, the neighbors window it needs to grow up to cover, and just a few of the bread loaf sized rocks that were displaced to give it a home.

Also included is a picture of my new door color (not sure I like it) and my attempts to tame a shrub that is planted in a spot MUCH too small for it's nature. I felt like a murderer, and the shrub looks like a badly shaved sheep. (I need bigger nippers....but again that chea.. urg, frugal thing)

Gotta love the outdoors while the weather is still cool. Meanwhile the paint chips loom.

Well you HAVE been busy! I like the door color. I'm glad to hear you're not considering mustard...it seems to be a pretty popular color right now though if you look at the magazines. The outdoor planting, chopping and pruning looks very therapeutic.

YOU HAVE A NEW HOME! Congrats :0)

Nothing wrong with the door color at all. Mustard though? Not digging it, but I imagine whatever you pick it will look fabulous! So exciting to be doing stuff on your own home I'm thinking!
