Em and the Magic Sponge

" The magic sponge grew! It turned into a butterfly! And on the back it still had the words "Magic Sponge". Can you believe it? I knew something was going to happen! Can you also tell this to your sister?"

This is the reaction of my friends 5yr old daughter Linnea the morning after I replaced a mini "magic sponge" with a large green sponge I had cut into the shape of a butterfly. Oh, I had also written "magic sponge" on it to help make the transition believable.

She was so certain that sponge was going to turn into something and had left the bowl of water with the mini sponge in it by the bathroom sink when she went to bed that night. Just didn't want her to be disappointed, and apparently she wasn't. The quote is from an email she dictated to her mom the next morning.

The "sister" she wanted me to tell is my friend Emily who came out for Thanksgiving, and was the provider of the original mini "magic sponge."
Since Linnea has met 3 of my 4 sisters in the last 6 months she just assumed Emily was another.

Why would Emily even HAVE a magic sponge and bring it to Tucson? Well... Because she is Emily.
The pictures here of her in her local thrift store purchases should help that make some sense. You cannot believe how excited she was about these 70s custom made dresses.
She actually quick changed into the orange feather number on her return to Sacramento just before her ride picked her up, just as a joke. I'm sure the stares and gawks didn't phase her one bit.

The thrift store purchases were the high point of the visit. We also made a quick trip to Sabino canyon and other desert "wonders", but mostly stayed in watching videos and chatting.

Once again, it was great to have company to help pull me out of my hermit hole.
I'm currently deeply ensconced in the hole again. It is very cluttered and messy in here.
If only I had a magic sponge.

Sheesh! I can't believe she even found shoes that totally match two of those divine outfits! And yes, they are indeed "totally" Emily. Love it!

Also love the mini sponge- butterfly story.

Not quite as much as the "Of course you're Emily!" one though :0)

I'm not so sure that a hermit hole is a "bad" thing...I wouldn't mind having a little one to go into for a bit myself.

Glad you had a good visit with Em.

How fun. I also dig the matching shoes. You two are incredible thrifty shoppers. Glad Em could come for a visit.

Wow. I mean really wow. Not only are those some awesome outfits, but they fit. That is always my problem. I can find anything, it just doesn't fit.

Silly magic sponge anyway. I want one of those, but I want it to turn into a babysitter not a butterfly. Tell Emily to get on that.

What a fabulous friend!

Love the magic sponge story, too. Life can be pretty magical when kids are involve...you always seem to be intuned to that:)
